Goodbye 2018

Happy 2019! I know things have been quiet here. I’m hoping 2019 is a bit less of a RL roller coaster and that I’ll have more time for SL blogging. Although, I did have a good reason for taking off November… I wrote a novel, as part of National Novel Writing Month (better known as NaNoWriMo). My goal is to self-publish on Amazon in the coming months.

But, since the holidays have come and gone – and before we get any further into the new year – I did want to share a few pics I did in December.

My SL daughter Nana and I spent some time hanging out on Christmas. Mostly we were both AFK in RL, but I did manage to grab a pic of us, both looking really festive (I don’t have her credits, but if you’re curious, just ask! I can get them from her).

Here’s a closeup of me in my amazing Christmas tree hair from Astrology. Astrology is having a wicked store contest right now, and you could win the entire store! I also wanted to share the details on a less, uh… traditional… Christmas pic I did. I did a headshot that goes with this, but haven’t edited it yet. When I do I’ll upload it to Flickr and link to this post.

Champagne

I’ve been hooked on this song by Lindsay Ell since I first heard it probably six weeks ago. I’ve had it on my Current Obsessions playlist since. I thought it was good inspiration for a pic, so here you go… me in a posh limo (courtesy of Foxcity) wearing a sexy little red dress (from Just Because) and these killer Kristen heels from Gos, which you can snag at the October round of FaMESHed before it closes. I’m wearing LAQ’s Athena head in this post, which I will also wear in my next post with a close up. This head is gorgeous and if you’re looking for a less “soft” or “cute” look, I definitely would check this one out. I personally like softer/cute so I tweaked my shape and I’m using one of LAQ’s eyebrow appliers, instead of the very strong (and gorgeous) default brows on the skin for this head. But this head has such a great jaw and nose, and I really love it.

I’ve been dealing with mental health struggles lately. I had hoped there might be a medical cause, in terms of vitamin deficiencies or a thyroid imbalance (which I’ve had a lot of this year), but all my labs were normal, so I’ll be following up with my psychiatrist soon. It’s been a hella crazy year for us in RL, so I’m kind of thinking some of that is catching up to me. But I believe very strongly in discussing mental health challenges, so as to help with the stigma they still carry, so I thought I’d share my struggles here.

Summer’s End

I live at 9,000 feet in RL (which is about 2700 meters for those not in the US). Here fall comes early. We had a first tree start showing signs of changing in late July, and now there are quite a few aspens with yellow leaves. I love fall (and am not overly fond of summer) so this makes me really happy.

Because I began changing my sim to fall at the end of July I rented a little beach cottage on one of the Baja Norte sims. They’re really pretty and you don’t have to be a renter to get rezz rights. Just join the group (there is a fee, but I think it’s worth it). Respect that the houses have renters, but other than that the sims are open to explore! It’s a great place to do summery, beachy pics and I may keep mine year-round! It’s a reasonable rate and it’s kind of fun to have an SL “vacation” home, silly as that might sound!

Anyway, when I saw this dress from Neve I knew it would go perfectly with the cute print heels Ingenue released for August’s Collabor88 (they should be in the Mainstore soon, if they aren’t yet). I chose the ice cream cone ones (because, hello adorable!) and my general goal was to look like the embodiment of ice cream. My Magika hair color is courtesy the group gift Color Melt Palette hud which works with specific newer hair releases. The ice cream cone is from Half-Deer and the pose is Nantra’s. The straw hat is an automatically rezzed prop but you can remove it if you don’t need/want it for some reason. The lemon cushioned chairs from Half-Deer went nicely next to my Dust Bunny ice cream vending machine out on my deck.

My closeup better shows off the adorable LAQ Cherry head, which I paired with Pink Fuel’s applier Melody. I am always so happy to see stores release for LAQ heads. They’re my favorite heads to use (LeLutka being my second choice) and while Mallory Cowen’s skins are utterly gorgeous, it’s fun to have more variety and options! Mochi Milena puts a lot of thought into her huds for her appliers and I love using them. They’re easy and fun and you get so many options. Plus, I’ve always felt adorable in Pink Fuel skins! I’m wearing a pair of glasses by Cae on my head. Also by Cae is my cute flamingo necklace.

Summer Fever

I’ve been sick with shingles and so I’m not going to write much… but I wanted to share some things with you all!

I got the boy…

The two pics in this post were inspired by Jana Kramer’s song “I Got The Boy.” I have had the idea for this post literally since the first time I heard this song… and it came out in 2015, so it’s been a long time in the making. You can read the lyrics (and I’ll add the video below, which may not work depending on where you live due to streaming rights). But the gist of it is, a woman sees her first love’s wedding pic in the paper… and she gets very nostalgic.

I decided to use my malt and one of my alts to do this. My malt is in the same skin/body/head for both shots, but with the help of some different hair and a beard, he’s “grown up” a bit in the wedding pic.

I got the boy (which for some reason I did with my alt, so really “I” got the man lol).

She got the man.

Heaven

I’ve been obsessed with the Julia Michaels song Heaven for the past month or so. It’s dreamy and sexy… and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head! So I decided to do a blog post inspired by the chorus lyrics:

I decided to give my malt a complete makeover… I will be featuring his look in a future post, so stay tuned for that. Then I found a sexy pose at Purple Poses, rezzed a Bueno skybox that was all white (made me think of the whole “heaven” part).

I decided to do a look that combined a bit of innocence with edginess, and I achieved that using LAQ’s Poppy head, which is utterly adorable with leather pants by Gos and a sexy denim and lace top from Just Because!

I also wanted to do a pic alone, to better show off the leather pants and sexy top, and my cute Sabina sandals from Ingenue, which are currently at Collabor88.

And, check out LAQ’s new glam lashes. Plus, I wanted to show off my Spring eyeshadow appliers from Izzie’s. Copper boom!

I know it’s been awhile. RL has been kicking my ass. First I had an unexpected complication from the surgery I had in March (which you’re welcome to read about here, on my personal blog). My thyroid got completely out of whack and if you’ve ever had issues with your thyroid you know the many ways this will affect you. Basically, a normal TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level is under 4.5… mine was 26. Yeah, it’s not good. I go back to have it rechecked in a couple of weeks, but it’s meant I’ve been exhausted, scattered (thyroid problems make concentration harder, add that to ADD and fibro fog and it’s not pretty) and overall, I just feel kind of… meh. I get moody when my thyroid’s fucked up and moodiness isn’t a normal state for me so I hate when I feel this way. It feels like my emotions belong to a stranger and it makes me feel raw and exposed.

Anyway, as if that wasn’t enough, my 86 year-old grandfather’s health took a turn for the worse in the past month. He’s been fading for awhile thanks to dementia… but the last couple of weeks especially have been horrible. He’s now under hospice care at home and I am both dreading his death and hoping it won’t be long now. I don’t want him to have to live this way, stripped of his dignity and independence. I am 1800 miles away and had hoped to see him in June (it was a bit up-in-the-air) but even if I get back east I no longer expect him to be there, except in memories.

I cope by doing one of four things: reading, listening to music, playing games with my husband or rewatching Gilmore Girls (which, tbh, I’m pretty much always doing). Copper boom! is a so-called Gilmorism from Season 4 of the series. It is a mishearing that becomes a thing they say that means “hurry up!” I’ve been feeling a need to hurry up, even as I’ve struggled to do so, and therefore it seemed appropriate to use the custom hud for the adorable Blueberry Lila sweatshirt tied around my waist (worn with matching jeans) to reflect my feelings. I grabbed my alt, who is appropriately currently named Lorelai, to pose with me using a pose by Infiniti. My adorable sneakers are from Ingenue. I fell in love with a pic of similar RL shoes and sent it to the lovely Betty Doyle who – much to my delight – made a version of them in SL!

I’m wearing a top from Vinyl that reflects the coffee loving Gilmore Girls… to be honest, I’m not much for coffee myself unless it’s from Starbucks and has been seriously flavored somehow. I also had to show off one of LAQ’s new faces, Leia. LAQ recently revamped their heads and the way it works now is pretty cool. You can read the full details on their Flickr post, but the short version is that you now buy the heads separately from the HUD and once you have a HUD it will work with any of the heads. This saves you money if you’re someone who enjoys having multiple heads to choose from (and other strange things you don’t say in RL). The HUD has been updated, with new mocap animations.

Fierce Competition

The Olympics are coming and I adore them. My pal Brennan from These Conversations Kill was kind enough to gift me these fabulous Nantra skating poses and I was inspired. I have to say I am really impressed by the poses in this collection (which is called Going for Gold). They convey movement so beautifully, which is hard to do in a static pose! You get a stand, there are 8 poses (with mirrors, so 16 total) and there’s even a shape included (I am not using it, but it could be handy if you run into compatibility issues with your shape!).

My top is by Decoy and is part of the Alyssa gacha at the current round of The Epiphany, which runs until February 12th.

New Year’s Heartbreak

I took these pics on New Year’s Day. I was feeling a bit down, so I decided to do a blue sort of scene, with a play on words… “Happy Blue Year.” For a lot of reasons, New Year’s is tough for me, but it was more than the usual this year. I just felt in my gut entering 2018 that our beloved pup was unlikely to make it to 2019. He was diagnosed with a heart condition late last summer and the truth is, at one point I didn’t even think we’d get one last autumn and holiday season with him. But we did… and yet, I knew it was probably the last. I did my best to make the most of it.

Unfortunately, I had no idea how right my gut was. His condition took a sudden turn for the worse and Thursday morning we had to say goodbye. We’re heartbroken. I’m shattered and utterly devastated. I don’t know how to do this… to live without my baby here. I know time will help me figure it out but I also know I’ll never be the same. Having to say goodbye was brutal… the coming weeks, months, year will be brutal, too. But never having had him would’ve been worse. He made more than a quarter of my life brighter and better. I’m forever changed by having had him in my life.

I don’t have it in me to do a lot more than explain this, share my pics and list credits. But I wanted to get this posted before it got any further into 2018.

And on a final note, a song that’s been helping me cope a bit, particularly the quote “hold on to the memories, they’ll hold on to you,” which happens to be the title of the headshot. It appropriately came on the radio as we drove home from the vet Thursday morning, and while I sobbed through it, it was also cathartic somehow. Music is magic for me, so I am using it to get through this, as much as I am able.

Santa’s Helper

Exile has created the cutest little dress that is perfect for being a holiday elf or Mrs. Claus herself. There’s also a hair designed to fit perfectly under its fuzzy hood! The dress is called Santa Baby and comes in 3 color packs. The hair is called Weekender and comes in all of Exile’s usual colors. You’ll find both in the Mainstore. I thought the look was perfect for helping to sell trees on the tree farm by hive I picked up from Tannenbaum. My gorgeous tree is from Half-Deer and you can find it at Collabor88. There are so many colors and styles (I am using the Traditional here), and if you love Christmas as much as I do, I highly recommend the fatpack for L$788. It’s a great deal.
