There’s no place like home!

A while ago, I promised to show you more of what has become my favorite ever home in SL. This Lodge from Zacca has such a dreamy quality to it, and yet I can absolutely imagine a home like this existing in the real world. It makes me think of something you’d find in some old little village in the UK. I admit, this house was a challenge for me to decorate. I was fortunate that one of my friends told me about Dysfunctional Dolly Designs, which helped me keep some of the”old world meets new” vibe I wanted. This is the front of the house. My tulips are from Organica and I love how detailed they are.

This next pic features a couple of items from the current round of FaMESHed. The hair from Exile combined with the adorable shoes from LaRoo inspired a look that made me think of Dorothy from The Wizard Of Oz. I love heels with socks, and I fell hard for these shoes. I had a really hard time debating a color, but ultimately went with one of the florals because it’s (nearly) summer and I wanted something summery! The odds are very high you’ll see these shoes again in a darker shade come autumn. My skirt is from DCNY and the top is from Coco, which was a “new to me” store. My look isn’t exactly identical to Dorothy’s, but rather just overall inspired by that.

Here’s a close up collage, of both the LaRoo shoes and the adorable Greymoon bag I’m holding. There are multiple colors and styles, and they are in a gacha, so you’ll have to try your luck to see which one you get! I’m wearing one of the Rares. It features art from Alice In Wonderland. Given all the recent hoopla over copyright and IP infringement, let me say first hand that the designer is a dear friend who researched thoroughly to make sure she was using art that is no longer under copyright. These bags are so cute, and they fit my mood. Maybe it may seem odd to mix Alice In Wonderland with something sort of Oz-ish, but I’ve been watching a lot of Once Upon A Time recently… so it felt perfectly fine to me!

Oh, and since my skin is one the new Pink Fuel Harley skins for The Arcade, I had to take a close up shot of it. I still need to go try to win the rare!

Now, back to the house… you’ve seen the outside. Let me show you inside. This is what you see when you open the front door… this gorgeous window with the build in daybed (complete with poses) that looks out on the courtyard.

My living room is decorated primarily with items from LISP. As always, you can click through on any of these pics and hover for notes on where each item comes from. If you want any specifics, just ask me!

This house has two rooms, one of which I made a kitchen. Here are a few pics of that. I have to comment on the dining set because I coveted this set for months… and I finally caved and got it because nothing I had was right for this kitchen (or so I convinced myself). It’s from LAQ Decor and you get a bunch of colors. The table has rezzers and a ton of options for what to have out (if anything). There’s even a funky timer setting called Auto Clear, so you can have it set to de-rezz on its own!

The other of the two rooms I made into the bedroom, with space for reading and writing because I can’t not have books and pads or typewriters, even in a virtual world!

The typewriter in this collage pic is from Floorplan, and it’s one of the items you can snag at The Arcade. This is the rare floral version.

If you’re looking for an unusual house, this is definitely one worth checking out. I am so in love with it that I’m having a bit of a tough time breaking it all down. I rarely stay attached to houses once I’ve decorated and photographed them, but this one is something pretty darn special.

Prissy In Pink

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m still recovering from a nasty bout of bronchitis… but I didn’t want to let today go by without say I hope you all have a lovely ❤ Day.

My adorable look inspired the title Prissy In Pink. The skin, a Valentine's Day special from Aeva, is so deliciously pouty. When I added the hair – Tenille – from Truth's last release, with it's poufy bow and the corset dress from Greymoon with its polka dots, I just felt so girly. This dress will be out in Greymoon's mainstore in a couple of days, and it's hud controlled with multiple texture options! I'm not usually big on pink… but I get in moods once in a while, and this one just happened to be rather well timed! It also gave me the chance to use the pink shade of my Grace sandals from Gos Boutique! Oh, and btw… for those who don't like hair bows, Tenille comes with an alternate version sans bow!

Now for a closeup of Selene. This skin is just so lovely. I consider one of the Aeva//Heartsick trademarks to be how utterly soft Amesha Jewell’s skins look. The Sweetheart makeup, special for Valentine’s Day, is ultra feminine, and there’s a quiet maturity to this skin for those who prefer to look a bit older. My eyes are from IKON’s Eternal line. The shade is called Mesa, and I liked the hint of an almost pinkish brown that this color has to it. I’m kind of obsessed with this line of eyes. I’m incredibly fussy about how eyes look in SL, and I have to confess I don’t like most eyes. I’ve been addicted to IKON eyes since last spring, and that addiction doesn’t seem to be waning at all. Oh, also… check out this adorable necklace from Collisions! It’s called Forever Infinite and it’s so pretty, and yet it’s not overly feminine. It’s designed to be unisex.

HTGT Day 8 & Iren’s Mona

Iren released a new skin! Mona is absolutely gorgeous, and now even has new add ons so you can wear tattoo layers to change your nose or mouth to the noses and mouths of other Iren skins. This is a new trend in skin creation I find really intriguing. It means you can really customize your look. I’m just wearing the basic Mona skin with eyeliner and a lip layer for these pics, but definitely check out Iren’s awesome offerings.

In addition to the add-ons you can buy to customize Mona for your look, there’s also an option that includes mesh hands! I’ve resisted mesh hands because I change skins so often and tinting them is just a pain, even with the easier of the huds. I’ve also found most mesh hands just don’t look totally seamless, no matter how elegant or well done they might be… but the Mona hands are virtually seamless and already tinted to perfectly match whichever tone you buy! My hair for today (okay, for Day 8) is Jade from Truth in my usual blood red shade. This adorable cropped top is a “coming soon” item from Insatiable Fashions. I love crops that show off the belly button. They feel cute, flirty and sexy… and speaking of bellies, doesn’t the Mona skin have a crazy cute belly?

Finally, I just had to show off my recently acquired bed from LAQ Decor. The thing that blows me away about this bed is how many tint and fabric options you get. You can go from shabby chic to nautical elegance to country charm all with just a few minutes of customizing. I’m obsessed with purple recently, so I made my bed fit with that obsession. Oh, and in addition to being obsessed with purple, I’m always obsessed with anything that has stars! So, when my dear friend Lyssa Sapeur, owner of Greymoon, mentioned she was making jeans with patterns, I requested stars! The result is seen in the below pic, and I just love these jeans so much. Also, you see those adorable frosted mirrors in the background? They are the hunt gift from [WM] for the Cold Winter Nights hunt. Such a cute piece of decor, and definitely worth the hunt to find!

My house is the recent Wynter release from Funky Junk. More posts with this house are soon to come, but this is the first time I’ve ever re-textured a house, and I’m pretty excited about it. Usually I just use a house as-is… but my BFF Rosa is a re-texturing addict. She always re-textures her houses. I’ve always been intimidated by the idea. Wynter is, not surprisingly, designed as a winter cottage… and as Rosa walked through it, she mentioned it had a lot of white. If I were still decorated for Christmas, I think I’d love that because it would be a great contrast to the rich colors of Christmas decor. But since it’s January, and Rosa tempted me with the idea of re-texturing… I decided to go for it. For most people, re-texturing prims is like… no big deal. But I’ve come a long way from the woman who had her husband log in to adjust her prims for her first six months of SL!

Anyway, my bedroom is currently “papered” in a lilac Victorian print, but I’m not 100% sure I’m keeping that. Regardless, I love this house so much. It’s one of the biggest homes I’ve had for just “me” but it makes me happy to walk through it. If you’re looking for a cozy, but roomy, winter home, definitely check it out!

Ah, the unplanned hiatus!

So, I sort of took a break. It wasn’t planned, but I found myself needing to refresh and relax last weekend. Then I had a fibromyalgia flare up, and that’s been distracting me all week. I also started a new class this week, at a new university. I’m excited by this, as I really want to accomplish my goal of becoming a teacher! But the result of all this is that I’ve been a distracted blogger, to say the least, and for that I am sorry! However, I have not forgotten my Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow challenge, and I’ve been uploading pics for it on Flickr. I’m still a bit behind, but at least I’ve got some and can catch up a bit. More will come soon.

Since I’m behind overall, I deviated from my default look to show you some cool stuff. But let’s start with the pic I did for Day 5, I’m using my default pose and outfit, but this skin is the gorgeous new Ginevra from Izzie’s in pale. I added the brown eyeshadow and eyeliner tattoo layers. My eyes are Steppe, a new color in IKON’s Eternal series. I love the sort of greenish-tan feel to this shade. I took this pic on Tuesday, the day of the Rolling Restart hell! Our sim was one of many affected by the restarts, and I couldn’t do anything on it most of the day. So, I used the Linden home and snapped this pic there. The chair you see is from Trompe Loeil, and the wall decal is What Next. The hair of the day is Ashleigh from Alice Project. If you are like me and are fussy about the shade of your hair, you definitely need to check out the Alice Project hair. Her huds are amazing and let you do a lot to customize your style.

For Day 6, I deviated entirely from my default look. You can find full credits at the bottom, but this top is from Greymoon. It’s so unique and comes in a lot of colors. The one I am wearing is black and white and I paired it with jeans from Sn@tch. My Day 6 hair is Long Day from Ploom. I technically bought the browns pack, but I tinted it. I’m not entirely sure how I wound up with the browns, lol. Likely I bought them for a shape or pose ad for Embody. I love the messy, wispy style of this hair. I also tweaked a shape and made it my own. I think most people won’t even notice the differences. They are probably more subtle than I think they are!

This skin is new from Aeva. This is Charity bare. It’s so soft and delicate. I felt really pretty and ultra feminine in this skin. What I really love about the bare skins from Aeva is that they still feel more mature than a lot of bare skins. The eyes I used in this look (and the next) also one of the new Eternal eye colors from IKON, Teak. I love brown eyes with my red hair. It feels less expected than green or blue. I mean, I wear those, too! I’m a chameleon, except for my hair color which is (nearly) always red (some blog posts aside)!

Day 7 features a LeLutka hair I bought ages ago and sort of forgot to ever wear. *Facepalms* But that’s the point of this challenge, right?!? Lively is sooo long and lush. I feel so pretty in this hair. I’m wearing a dress from Sn@tch and the gorgeous new Siobahn skin from Adam N Eve.

I admit that this hair shade isn’t as red as I like it to be, but this style has a little clip. If I tint the hair, I’d tint the clip. And this red is still pretty, especially with the bright lips on this skin.

So, now I’m still 2 days behind (not counting today), but I’ll get caught up soon!

Deck The Halls!

I can’t believe Christmas is finally just about here… only a few days remain! So much I want to blog still!

The Outlet is a sales event that has some great items. One of the available items is this gorgeous, fun, and quirky dress from Greymoon. I feel like I’m all dressed up as my husband’s gift in this sexy, sparkly getup! There are 3 colors at the outlet, including the reverse of what I’m wearing and a purple w/white! Each is only L$75, so check it out! I completed my look with the gorgeous new Pomona jewelry set from Cae, one of Truth’s newest hairs and my sassy red patent heels from G Field. This prop is from Hopscotch, and it’s appropriately called Sexy Christmas. It has multiple poses built into it, and it’s a lot of fun to play with.

This skin is another of the Aeva skins for the holidays. This one is Jaci. It’s dramatic and stunning, and perfect for the more formal holiday themed events you might attend!

Despair… not (a most unusual birthday tribute)

My dear friend Lyssa Sapeur (owner of Greymoon) shared with me some pictures she took recently where her goal was to capture “suffering.” However, she didn’t just capture suffering… she captured beauty. Both of us suffer from fibromyalgia. It’s a daily struggle, but despite the ever present pain and fatigue, both of us have found our own ways to cope, and I think I speak for us both when I say that Second Life is part of that coping mechanism.

I was challenged by Lyssa’s pics, and she gave me permission to share them. Hers are what I call “modest nudes.” It’s clear she’s stripped bare, but nothing is really showing. I love this form of nude photography. It’s vulnerable, beautiful and about shape and form… not overt sexuality (which is often also gorgeous, but in a different way). I didn’t edit her pics, except to take 2 of them and make a collage.

The past couple of weeks, I’ve been struggling with the fibro fatigue and pain quite a bit. It’s called a “flare,” and it sucks. But I try to find ways to keep myself distracted, and focused on things other than the pain. Today is Lyssa’s RL birthday… and I really wanted to do this post in her honor. Rather than “suffering,” I went with “despair.” That word nicely sums up the frustration and challenges of a flare. I had this awesome set of teary eyes and tears tattoos from Izzie’s called I’m not feeling very well… and I decided this was a great time to use them.

I’ve also been looking for an excuse to buy this seriously adorable new Magika hair Whimsical. It has this cute little crazy curl that you can show or hide. In this second pic, I’m showing it. Don’t I look like a Who or some other Seussian character?

This may seem like a rather morbid or gloomy birthday tribute… but I don’t see it that way, and I think Lyssa will understand. To me, this is a celebration of her ability (and mine) to find strength despite the challenges we face daily. She is a strong, beautiful woman who can see beauty through her daily pain and trials. I admire her greatly, and I am so glad to call her my friend.

And so… while I may despair, I also fight through it. I push on through the pain, and I succeed largely in part due to friends like Lyssa. She is an inspiration to me, and I am lucky to have her as part of my life.

Happy birthday, Lyssa. I hope you have a day every bit as beautiful and inspiring as you.
